Cathcart Associates Raise Their Way to the Final
Cathcart Associates FC proudly raised £225 for Prostate Scotland after competing in the winter edition of Business Fives, a corporate five-a-side football tournament with charity at its heart.
A mixed start to the competition, we had a 1-1 draw against software company MarkToMarket to start the day, followed by a disappointing 3-1 loss to eventual “Europa League” winners AutoRek and closing off the group, we defeated software point of sale company Zonal 3-1 with a screamer of a goal from Captain Liam Wilson - http://bit.ly/goooooalll
After a hotly contested group, we qualified for the “Champions League”, drawn against fellow recruitment company Eden Scott in the quarter final. A comfortable 3-1 win for Cathcart meant moving into the semi-final in what would prove to be our toughest game against Veolia. A back & forth contest which we ended up winning 5-4 with a late goal from Jack Steven (in fact, he scored all 5 in a MoTM performance), we made it to the final!
Our fairy-tale run unfortunately ended there due to a mixture of injury, running out of steam and playing the best team in the tournament – 1825 Financial Planning. After two bouts of “agonising” cramp, we had to rely on our Director Gordon Kaye to play the end of the game in the sticks, even though he’d pulled out the tournament due to injury in the morning.
A valiant effort in the final saw us defeated 4-2 and we’re big enough to admit, the better team won. However, we did manage to squeeze in one last absolute corker – with Stuart Manderson scoring the last and indeed best goal of the day, which you can see in all its glory here:
A great day had by all and after playing in several of these events, we would highly recommend you get involved. John and the team have a winning formula and so far, they have raised over £100,000 for charity through Business Fives, which is incredible.
We continued our fundraising efforts for Prostate Cancer and can’t wait to do so again at the national final in April. Who knows, maybe we’ll go one step further and bring home the £5,000 grand prize for Prostate Scotland.
