Cathcart Associates' Sponsors all-girl Scottish team to compete in the F1 in Schools STEM Challenge

Cathcart Associates are proud sponsors of Team AcceleRace, the all-female Scottish team from Linlithgow Academy that are heading to Singapore to compete in World Finals of The F1 in Schools Challenge.


F1 in Schools is an international STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) competition for students aged 11-18. The teams were given a chance to design, construct and race the fastest Formula One car of The Future. The challenge inspires the students to use their knowledge in IT to learn about physics, aerodynamics, design, manufacture, graphics, financial strategy and so much more.


The competition is supported by the F1 community and is found in over 40 countries which makes it seen as the largest STEM-based program in schools all over the world.


Team AcceleRace consists of five S3 pupils from Linlithgow Academy - Louise Paterson, Isla Petrie, Louise Murray, Molly Ganner and Aoife Sutton. Their admirable objectives of competing in this challenge is achieving personal development for all their team members and proving that girls can succeed in STEM, which will ultimately encourage other young girls to take up careers in engineering or technology.


The girls came 2nd in the Regional Finals which led them to representing Scotland at the UK National Finals, held on 19th March 2018. They deservingly took home the winning title along with achieving the fastest car in the UK. By winning the UK Finals, they have now qualified compete at the F1 in Schools World Finals, to be held in Singapore in September.


Team AcceleRace now have the task of raising £10,000 to help them travel to Singapore and represent the UK in the World Finals.
